Show moreCo-located interaction in interactive art takes place among two or more co-located audience members and the technical system of an artwork. In this paper, we aim to assess the descriptive and comparative qualities of our previously developed relational model for describing and analysing such forms of interaction. The model focuses on specifying the actions of the interacting elements, such as the audience and art system, and the various forms of communication between them. To assess its significance, we first develop selection criteria and classification dimensions to select eight artworks that are representative of diverse forms of co-located interaction. The relational model is shown to be suitable for describing the selected artworks and comparing their similarities and differences. As outcome, it reveals different types of relationships between the actions of interacting elements that would otherwise not be highlighted. As such, it provides a context for analysing and discussing strategies for co-located interaction and points to opportunities for research and creation in this field. Show less

It demonstrates how there are inner connections between the nature of contemporary development in Iran, the form of the state, the ongoing sociopolitical transformations in society and the geopolitical tensions with the West. Simultaneously, it highlights that these issues should be explored in terms of their internal relations to the motions and tendencies of neoliberal global capitalism and resulting geopolitics. Accordingly, the book demonstrates that Iranian neoliberalisation has brought about new contested class dynamics that have fundamentally reconstructed the Iranian ruling class, aggressively shaped and reshaped the working class and the poor, and drastically impacted the state form and its foreign policy. Maar wat is het precies en wat kunnen we er mee? Informaticus Maarten Lamers legde in de studio uit hoe machines zichzelf slimmer maken en wat het verschil is tussen ons menselijke brein en het computerbrein.Onderzoeker Oumaima Hajri vertelde waar we kunstmatige intelligentie allemaal tegenkomen. Ontzettend handig, maar het is volgens haar ook belangrijk om zelf kritisch te blijven nadenken. Show moreComparative neurobiology allows us to investigate relationships between phylogeny and the brain and understand the evolution of traits. Bats constitute an attractive group of mammalian species for comparative studies, given their large diversity in behavioural phenotypes, brain morphology, and array of specialised traits. Currently, the order Chiroptera contains over 1,450 species within 21 families and spans ca. 65 million years of evolution. To date, 194 Neotropical bat species (ca. 13% of the total number of species around the world) have been recorded in Central America. This study includes qualitative and quantitative macromorphological descriptions of the brains of 12 species from six families of Neotropical bats. These analyses, which include histological neuronal staining of two species from different families (Phyllostomus hastatus and Saccopteryx bilineata), show substantial diversity in brain macromorphology including brain shape and size, exposure of mesencephalic regions, and cortical and cerebellar fissure depth. Brain macromorphology can in part be explained by phylogeny as species within the same family are more similar to each other. However, macromorphology cannot be explained by evolutionary time alone as brain differences between some phyllostomid bats are larger than between species from the family Emballonuridae despite being of comparable diverging distances in the phylogenetic tree. This suggests that faster evolutionary changes in brain morphology occurred in phyllostomids — although a larger number of species needs to be studied to confirm this. Our results show the rich diversity in brain morphology that bats provide for comparative and evolutionary studies. Show less

Show moreImmunotherapy with immune-checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) and targeted therapy with BRAF and MEK inhibitors have revolutionized the treatment of melanoma over the past decade. Despite these breakthroughs, the 5-year survival rate of patients with advanced-stage melanoma is at most 50%, emphasizing the need for additional therapeutic strategies. Adoptive cell therapy with tumour-infiltrating lymphocytes (TILs) is a therapeutic modality that has, in the past few years, demonstrated long-term clinical benefit in phase II/III trials involving patients with advanced-stage melanoma, including those with disease progression on ICIs and/or BRAF/MEK inhibitors. In this Review, we summarize the current status of TIL therapies for patients with advanced-stage melanoma, including potential upcoming marketing authorization, the characteristics of TIL therapy products, as well as future strategies that are expected to increase the efficacy of this promising cellular immunotherapy.Despite dramatic progress over the past decade, only around 50% of patients with advanced-stage melanoma derive durable benefit from immune-checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) and/or BRAF and MEK (BRAF/MEK) inhibitors. Over the past few years, adoptive cell therapy with tumour-infiltrating lymphocytes (TILs) has demonstrated encouraging efficacy including in patients with disease progression on ICIs or BRAF/MEK inhibitors. In this Review, the authors summarize the role of TIL therapies in the management of these patients and describe future research strategies that might improve safety or efficacy.Tumour-infiltrating lymphocyte (TIL) therapy shows consistent clinical activity in patients with advanced-stage melanoma, including after disease progression on or after immune-checkpoint inhibitors and BRAF plus MEK inhibitors, and is manageable in most patients.Selection of tumour-reactive T cells and improvements in T cell function during the manufacturing process are expected to further improve the clinical activity of TIL therapy while limiting toxicity.Further clinical implementation of TIL therapy will require the establishment of infrastructure for centralized TIL production or point-of-care manufacturing, as well as treatment by an experienced medical team.Centralized TIL production and treatment of patients at dedicated centres might be important to enhance the clinical feasibility of TIL therapy and will drive further technological innovation.
