Leiden University Scholarly Publications

About

The Leiden University Scholarly Repository is the online storage for scholarly output from Leiden University’s researchers and from institutes affiliated with Leiden University. Since 2006 the repository has provided Open Access to PhD Theses, articles, scholarly journals, book series and conference proceedings.

The Scholarly Repository’s main goals are to:

  • Increase visibility and accessibility of Leiden research output;
  • Provide access to the full text if possible with clear guidance on rights and obligations of the end user;>li>
  • Build a collection of Leiden research publications for the future by focusing on long term preservation.

Usage
To increase the usability of the repository, depositors are asked to choose a license and give some additional information about the version of the publication. This way end users know exactly what they are allowed to do with the publications they find in our repository.
For the licenses we have made use of icons to represent the rights and obligations:

  •   you are required give appropriate credits to the creator.
  •   you are not allowed to create derivatives of the work (translations for example).
  •   this item is for academic and educational use only. Commercial use is not allowed.
  •   this item has limited rights; redistribution and creating derivatives is not allowed.

Clicking on the license will present you with the full license text.
As far as the versions are concerned: the (corrected) publisher’s version is the preferred format as it is the exact same one as can be found at the website of the publisher. The accepted manuscript is a format of the publication in which all peer review comments have been processed, so the information is the same as the publisher’s version even though the layout may differ. The submitted manuscript is the first version send in to the publisher, it gives you a clear idea of what the paper is about, but may miss final edits.
To forward others to publications in our repository, please use the permanent url. It can be found at the top of the right bar in the format: https://hdl.handle.net/1887/12345 . This url will continue to work even if the current repository changes to another system.
See our library website for more information on licenses and versions.

Adding content
The Scholarly Repository consists of several collections. The main collections are the collections of institutes and faculties that register the individual output from researchers. Amongst our other collections, you will find journals and book collections published at Leiden University, conference proceedings from conferences held at our university and the publications of Leiden University Press.
For the main collections, Leiden University researchers have the obligation to register their scholarly publications in LUCRIS and attach a pdf to make their scholarly output Open Access. For the PhD theses, there is a separate procedure: uploading PhD dissertations. For full instructions, please visit our library website.
The other collections may be created upon request. If you have a conference, journal or book collection with strong ties to Leiden University, please contact the repository manager for more information. Collections benefit from the repository infrastructure: long-term preservation, permanent links, backup by the national library, increased visibility, usage statistics and it being a trusted repository in the scholarly infrastructure.
