Show moreHigher education curricula are regularly transformed to stay abreast of the diverse societal, technological, and domain-specific developments. To aid students’ learning, teachers use a wide range of resources to prepare students for this changing world. Nowadays, many educational resources are available online with open licenses, better known as open educational resources (OER). Yet, despite the opportunities OER can have to contribute to high quality and accessible education, reuse appears to remain low in higher education. Numerous OER initiatives have been initiated across the globe, but many tamp out after the project funding ends. Sustainable practices with OER are still constrained and limited empirical research has been undertaken to investigate how structural adoption of OER in higher education can be enhanced. This dissertation aimed to examine the challenges of OER adoption in higher education to contribute to insights into sustainability issues many OER initiatives encounter. Four studies were designed: (1) teachers’ current practices with OER and their need for support to foster OER adoption, (2) teachers’ assessments of OERs on quality, (3) the role of brokers in cultivating an inter-institutional community on OER, and (4) teachers’ perceived value of an inter-institutional community. Recommendations for future research and OER practices are presented. Show less

Show moreAim/objective: This study examines the value that learning community activities and interactions produce (immediate value) during the early stage of community development, contributing to scientific insights on value creation. Background: Due to the rapidly changing healthcare landscape, nurses and nursing students need to adjust their skills, knowledge and collaboration with colleagues and other disciplines. Learning communities are a promising approach to enhancing professional growth and collaboration, where members find value through participation in the community. Design: For the study, a qualitative design was used. Methods: A secondary analysis of case study data, collected during the first five sessions of a hospital learning community comprised of nurses, nursing students and a nurse lecturer, was conducted. Results: The analysis revealed immediate value related to five themes: participation, activity, engagement, interaction, and confidence/trust. Members were encouraged to participate in and be involved during activities and interactions, such as asking questions, sharing their experiences and receiving feedback. Members became more familiar and confident in later community sessions, promoting immediate value creation. This was indicated by the different members who became active, took initiative or discussed problems. Conclusions: It is concluded that the activities and interactions produce value during the early stage of community development but may also grow to include new activities and interactions associated with further community development. Show moreIn 2001, some important changes took place in the US accounting regime. As a result of these changes, acquiring companies are obliged to provide more extended as well as more uniform information concerning the mergers and acquisitions in their annual accounts. The intention of this research is to gain an insight into the information content of purchased goodwill with regard to the value creation of the acquisition for the business combination. This research contains two studies. The first study investigates whether the new regulation affects reporting on goodwill. The second study focuses attention on goodwill under the new regime as a measure of value creation. Show less
