Show moreThe overall objective of the present study was to assess the zoonotic potential of O. bifurcum, in other words to assess the risk of transmission of the simian parasite to humans. Knowledge of the zoonotic potential of O. bifurcum is central to controlling the infection in humans. The specific research aims were (1) to establish the presence of O. bifurcum in different species of non-human primates in two geographical areas outside of the endemic region in Ghana, (2) to determine whether there is any significant morphological variation between O. bifurcum from human and from different species of non-human primates, (3) to test the hypothesis that O. bifurcum from humans is genetically distinct from the parasite from nonhuman primates, and (4) to establish whether the hookworm Ancylostoma duodenale occurs in sympatry with O. bifurcum and impacts on human health in northern Ghana. Infection with this parasite can cause serious gastro-intestinal symptoms, which may lead to death. Since the beginning of this century, the parasite has also been described in humans on several occasions. Human infection with Oesophagostomum has always been considered as a zoonosis, an accidental infection of man with an animal parasite. It was assumed that its life-cycle was not completed in this unsuitable host. Show less

Show moreLa zone de Kantindi, canton de la Région des Savanes, est l'une des plus peuplées du Togo, avec un mode de vie principalement agraire: la commercialisation du coton et de l'arachide fournit les trois quarts des revenus et les produits vivriers couvrent soixante-dix pour cent de la consommation alimentaire. Les conditions de vie y restent cependant difficiles. La sous-nutrition y est chronique, l'approvisionnement en eau déplorable, le revenu insuffisant et les ressources des habitants dépendent pour une part des envois d'argent des émigrés. Se fondant sur des documents d'archives et des enquêtes menées à Kantindi, l'auteur montre comment, au cours de la colonisation allemande, puis française, et après l'indépendance, s'est réalisée l'intégration de cette région enclavée dans l'économie de traite ouest-africaine et dans l'État togolais moderne. Il établit un lien entre cette intégration et le mode de vie à Kantindi et fait appel aussi bien à l'analyse anthropologique qu'à la géographie, l'économie et l'histoire. Show less

Show moreHet doel van deze studie is om de effecten van de functionele en bestuurlijke integratie van de regio Savanes in Noord-Togo in een grotere eenheid voor de bestaanswijze in de regio te analyseren, waarbij de bestaanswijze in Kantindi als voorbeeld dient. De functionele integratie van de Savanes in de Westafrikaanse handelseconomie liep parallel met de bestuurlijke integratie van de regio in de Togolese staat. Wat betreft de functionele integratie wordt met name de specialisatie van de regio op het terrein van marktintegratie en arbeidsmigratie geanalyseerd. Daarnaast wordt aandacht besteed aan de ontwikkeling van infrastructuur, omdat die een belangrijke voorwaarde is voor functionele integratie. Om de gevolgen van de overheidsactiviteiten op lokaal niveau te beoordelen worden de vormen van bestuur, de reacties van de boeren en de gevolgen voor de sociale differentiatie onderzocht. Show less

Show moreCette étude aborde la question de l'acquisition de droits sur la terre, tels que ceux-ci ont été mis au grand jour au cours du développement et du réglement d'un litige portant sur l'utilisation d'une parcelle située dans la ville de N'zara, chef-lieu de la circonscription de Mango, dans le nord du Togo. Après une présentation détaillée des antécédents, qui expose en particulier les relations sociales unissant les deux parties (le propriétaire et l'utilisateur du terrain), les auteurs dévrivent la manière dont le litige est réglé, une première fois par l'autorité coutumière suprême de la localité (le Chef Supérieur), en 1971, et une deuxième fois par le Juge de Paix, en 1972. Cette description est suivie d'un aperçu des événements locaux qui se déroulent jusque'en 1978 et qui influent sur l'évolution de litige. Dans le situation présente, on voit l'application de différents systèmes juridiques par différentes instances judiciaires qui représentent divers systèmes de droit, et l'emploi sélectif de moyens judiciaires par les justiciables. Show moreDeze verhandeling beoogt een vergelijking tussen twee soorten rechtspraak in Noord-Togo, het westers georiënteerd recht en een verscheidenheid van plaatselijk verschillend volksrecht. De rechtspraak vormt een duidelijk spanningsveld tussen een van "boven af" of "centraal" gedirigeerde hervormingsdrang en een van "onder af" of van "binnen uit" lokaal gedirigeerde behoudzucht. Kernstuk van de vergelijking is een uitvoerige beschrijving en analyse van een negental gelijksoortige geschillen (huwelijk en aanverwante kwesties). Hieraan vooraf gaat een uiteenzetting van enkele aspecten van de sociaal-familiale en sociaal-politieke organisatie en van het huwelijk bij de Anufòm en een deel over de juridische grondslagen inzake het volksrecht in Togo.
