Show moreA brachial plexus injury is caused by traction on the brachial plexus during delivery or due to a high-energy road traffic accident in young adults. Muscle denervation and subsequent muscle degeneration results in functional limitations of the shoulder, elbow, wrist and hand including contractures and osseous deformities. This thesis describes clinical research on the impaired muscles and joint deformities and their treatment options. At the cellular level, this thesis describes stem cell therapy to regenerate muscle in patients with a brachial plexus injury. Show less
