Show moreCo-located interaction in interactive art takes place among two or more co-located audience members and the technical system of an artwork. In this paper, we aim to assess the descriptive and comparative qualities of our previously developed relational model for describing and analysing such forms of interaction. The model focuses on specifying the actions of the interacting elements, such as the audience and art system, and the various forms of communication between them. To assess its significance, we first develop selection criteria and classification dimensions to select eight artworks that are representative of diverse forms of co-located interaction. The relational model is shown to be suitable for describing the selected artworks and comparing their similarities and differences. As outcome, it reveals different types of relationships between the actions of interacting elements that would otherwise not be highlighted. As such, it provides a context for analysing and discussing strategies for co-located interaction and points to opportunities for research and creation in this field. Show less

Here, the authors present an acoustic detection system based on a single molecule as a probe, where frequency and amplitude of acoustic vibrations can be extracted from its minute variations in distance to the surface of a plasmonic gold nanorod.Sensitive detection of local acoustic vibrations at the nanometer scale has promising potential applications involving miniaturized devices in many areas, such as geological exploration, military reconnaissance, and ultrasound imaging. However, sensitive detection of weak acoustic signals with high spatial resolution at room temperature has become a major challenge. Here, we report a nanometer-scale system for acoustic detection with a single molecule as a probe based on minute variations of its distance to the surface of a plasmonic gold nanorod. This system can extract the frequency and amplitude of acoustic vibrations with experimental and theoretical sensitivities of 10 pm Hz(-1/2) and 10 fm Hz(-1/2), respectively. This approach provides a strategy for the optical detection of acoustic waves based on molecular spectroscopy without electromagnetic interference. Moreover, such a small nano-acoustic detector with 40-nm size can be employed to monitor acoustic vibrations or read out the quantum states of nanomechanical devices. Show less

Show morePURPOSE: To study the early anatomic choroidal alterations in eyes with chronic central serous chorioretinopathy (CSCR) undergoing photodynamic therapy (PDT).DESIGN: Multicenter retrospective cohort study.METHODS: A total of 77 patients and 81 eyes with chronic CSCR treated with PDT and 64 untreated fellow eyes were evaluated. Central macular thickness (CMT) and choroidal features including subfoveal choroidal thickness (SFCT), total choroidal area (TCA), luminal choroidal area (LCA), and stromal choroidal area (SCA) were analyzed. Choroidal vascularity index (CVI) was calculated in all study eyes at baseline and at 1- and 3-months post-PDT.RESULTS: In eyes receiving PDT, Snellen visual acuity (VA) significantly improved at months 1 and 3 (P < .001). CMT and SFCT showed a significant reduction from baseline at months 1 and 3 (P < .001), whereas TCA and LCA showed a significant decrease only at the 1-month follow-up visit. Baseline mean TCA and LCA were 2.30 +/- 1.41 mm(2) and 1.23 +/- 0.73 mm 2 , respectively, and decreased to 2.07 +/- 1.21 mm(2) and 1.08 +/- 0.63 mm(2) at the 1-month follow-up visit, respectively (P = .01). No significant changes were recorded for SCA and CVI. In the fellow eye group, VA, CMT, and all choroidal parameters showed no differences between baseline and any follow-up visits (all P > .05).CONCLUSIONS: After PDT for chronic CSCR we observed sustained reductions in CMT and SFCT, while reductions in TCA and LCA were only noted at the 1-month follow-up interval. These choroidal parameters may provide additional quantitative biomarkers to evaluate the anatomic response to therapy but await further prospective validation. (C) 2020 Elsevier Inc. The aim of this study is to provide data on the adjudication rate for a predetermined threshold of difference in change score between two readers in randomized controlled trials (RCTs).Methods. Fifteen datasets from RCTs in RA were scored by 13 experienced readers as pairs according to the modified Sharp-van der Heijde method. The theoretical adjudication rates for thresholds of between 3 and 20 units were calculated. We investigated the influence of the number of time points within the same session, the length of the interval and disease duration on the adjudication rates.Results. A total of 21 295 time points from 7643 patients from 15 databases were included in the analysis. The adjudication rate was inversely related to the threshold. Higher adjudication rates were observed with a higher number of time points, longer time intervals and in early versus established RA. The adjudication rates ranged from 0% to 22% depending on the scenario.Conclusion. With trained and experienced readers, the adjudication rate in RA RCTs is low even with very conservative adjudication thresholds. Show less
