Show moreMorocco is considered a water-independent country by the World Bank, yet due to its topographical diversity, considerable land surface, and challenges posed by climate change, it ranks among the most water-stressed countries on the globe. Marrakech, an oasis city in Morocco, thrived for centuries through the ingenious use of khettarat, a traditional system of underground wells and channels that tapped into local aquifers and made use of topography and gravity to sustainably deliver water to the city. Until the early 1990s, Marrakech could still meet all its drinking water demand with the use of khettarat. Owing to a combination of institutional, political and economic factors, the khettarat system went into sharp decline starting in the 1980s and was at risk of disappearing both as a form of heritage and as an Indigenous technology. Recent efforts by multiple stakeholders aim to safeguard and re-introduce khetterat. They demonstrate the importance of local socio-technical systems in ensuring equitable and sustainable development in Morocco and similar arid regions around the world. Show less

Although Akbar’s sun project may have been triggered by contemporary Hindu andZoroastrian ideas and practices, we argue that Akbar’s Neoplatonic advisers reframed it as a universalcosmotheistic tradition that, at the start of the new millennium, served as the perfect all-inclusiveimperial ideology of Akbar’s new world order. Show moreCo-located interaction in interactive art takes place among two or more co-located audience members and the technical system of an artwork. In this paper, we aim to assess the descriptive and comparative qualities of our previously developed relational model for describing and analysing such forms of interaction. The model focuses on specifying the actions of the interacting elements, such as the audience and art system, and the various forms of communication between them. To assess its significance, we first develop selection criteria and classification dimensions to select eight artworks that are representative of diverse forms of co-located interaction. The relational model is shown to be suitable for describing the selected artworks and comparing their similarities and differences. As outcome, it reveals different types of relationships between the actions of interacting elements that would otherwise not be highlighted. As such, it provides a context for analysing and discussing strategies for co-located interaction and points to opportunities for research and creation in this field. Show less

Show moreBackgroundActive engagement with feedback is crucial for feedback to be effective and improve students' learning and achievement. Medical students are provided feedback on their development in the progress test (PT), which has been implemented in various medical curricula, although its format, integration and feedback differ across institutions. Existing research on engagement with feedback in the context of PT is not sufficient to make a definitive judgement on what works and which barriers exist. Therefore, we conducted an interview study to explore students' feedback use in medical progress testing.MethodsAll Dutch medical students participate in a national, curriculum-independent PT four times a year. This mandatory test, composed of multiple-choice questions, provides students with written feedback on their scores. Furthermore, an answer key is available to review their answers. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 21 preclinical and clinical medical students who participated in the PT. Template analysis was performed on the qualitative data using a priori themes based on previous research on feedback use.ResultsTemplate analysis revealed that students faced challenges in crucial internal psychological processes that impact feedback use, including 'awareness', 'cognizance', 'agency' and 'volition'. Factors such as stakes, available time, feedback timing and feedback presentation contributed to these difficulties, ultimately hindering feedback use. Notably, feedback engagement was higher during clinical rotations, and students were interested in the feedback when seeking insights into their performance level and career perspectives.ConclusionOur study enhanced the understanding of students' feedback utilisation in medical progress testing by identifying key processes and factors that impact feedback use. By recognising and addressing barriers in feedback use, we can improve both student and teacher feedback literacy, thereby transforming the PT into a more valuable learning tool. Show less
