Uit de suiker in de politiek: Het leven van de staatsman I.D. Fransen van de Putte (1822-1902)

Doctoral Thesis

A biography of the statesman Fransen van de Putte (1822-1902). It's the story of his life as marine-officer, sailor, sugar entrepreneur and politician in colonial affairs. He was the leader of the Puttianen and he was the stongest opposer of the statesman Thorbecke. He abolished the cultuurstelsel in its most aspects. Under his responsibility the Atjeh war broke out.
