This thesis assessed methods to identify possible hazards to patient safety of new surgical instruments in minimally invasive surgery, before their introduction in daily clinical practice. Using a newly developed uterine manipulator and uterine power morcellators as a template, the concepts of a clinically driven approach and a prospective risk inventory were explored.
