Islam in today's imagination of the future

Abstract

While future thinking is not unknown in Islamic thought, new forms of Islam-inspired future thinking are emerging: Islamic Futures, Muslim Futures, and even the notion of 'Islamic state' are relatively recent forms of future thinking. This article is an attempt to understand these trends of future thinking by contextualizing them in the larger framework of futurism. It will be shown that Islam as a religion as well as culture and civilization provides different types of inspiration and goals in these newest trends of future thinking among Muslims.
