Intervención arqueológica en la cueva de Abauntz (Arraitz-Orkin). Resumen de la campaña 2024 y nuevas dataciones
The 2024 field season at Abauntz cave focused on expanding investigations in Chambers 1 and 2,
excavating levels 100 and f, and conducting systematic sampling of the stratigraphic sequence to
support palaeoecological reconstructions and palaeogenetic analyses. One of the most significant
outcomes was the dating of level 101, which exceeds 42,900 years in age. This finding raises new
questions regarding the site’s formation processes and the relationship between level 101 and level
h. The results obtained have significantly enhanced our understanding of the site’s sedimentary and
occupational dynamics, highlighting the need to continue excavations and further research through
a multidisciplinary approach.
