Circulating non-coding RNAs in kidney disease

In summary, this thesis focused particularly on non-coding RNAs, including RNYs, lncRNAs, miRNAs and others. These molecules are transported via diverse carriers, traversing the circulating system to reach their target organs or tissues and exert specific functions. Their structural characteristics underpin the complexity of their regulatory mechanisms, enabling multifaceted roles across different tissue or cell types. This thesis has systematically investigated the expression patterns and functional mechanisms of various ncRNA categories and their potential roles in endothelial dysfunction associated with CKD and DKD with each chapter dedicated to a distinct subtype of ncRNA. Furthermore, understanding the mechanistic roles of these molecules may reveal new therapeutic targets for preserving endothelial function and slowing disease progression. Given the limitations of current treatments for CKD and DKD, particularly in elderly populations, such advances could significantly impact patient outcomes.
