China globalises its pantheon of national heroes and martyrs

Chinese heroes and martyrs are being memorialised internationally as part of the government’s efforts to honour sacrifice and triumph for the Chinese homeland. While these events are presented as acts of solidarity with host countries, they primarily seek to cultivate patriotism and loyalty among Chinese diaspora communities. Host governments must strike a balance between historical recognition and national cohesion.
