Despite recent advances in research methods, many, if not all, aspects of the work remain open to discussion. Here we apply a genetic and exegetical approach to palaeolithic words in Finnegans Wake. We conclude that Joyce picked and tinkered with terms to elaborate and confuse the webs of meaning in Finnegans Wake.
