Challenges in managing venous thromboembolism: insights into cancer- and COVID-19-associated thrombosis
Abstract
This thesis aimed to evaluate the current management of venous thromboembolism (VTE) in cancer patients and to provide accurate incidence estimations in underrepresented populations (i.e. patients with glioblastoma, osteosarcoma and Ewing sarcoma, and patients with renal cell carcinoma and a tumor thrombus). Furthermore, it focused on the incidence and impact of VTE in hospitalized COVID-19 patients. Lastly, the diagnostic challenges and clinical implications of pulmonary infarction in acute pulmonary embolism (PE) were explored.
