Abstract
This chapter revisits the oeuvre of Frans Post and Albert Eckhout to investigate the many ways in which their works engaged with the enslavement of Africans and Afro-Brazilians during ‘Dutch Brazil’ (1630–1654) and how slavery and the enslaved individuals present in these works have been addressed in museum exhibitions since the 1930s.
