One size does not fit all: towards personalised management of ductal carcinoma in situ

Abstract

Ductal carcinoma is a potential precursor of invasive breast cancer. There is a growing concern for overtreatment in women with DCIS. To reduce overtreatment, one needs accurate prediction of which lesions are at risk of progressing to invasive breast cancer. In this thesis we aimed to lay the groundwork for a novel prediction model and decision aid to support potential de-escalation of treatment in women with DCIS.
