Abstract

After a judgment of the ECJ on 16 December 2008, the Finnish courts decided that Satamedia could not rely on the journalistic exception in the EU Data Protection Directive. The concept of 'journalism' was narrowly interpreted. According to the ECtHR, the national courts did not violate Satamedia's right to freedom of expression.
