Abstract

Walton classifies dialogues into seven different types (Walton, 2013). As normally used to transfer information from one party to the other (Walton, 2003), the information-seeking dialogue can usually be embedded in other dialogue types. But it’s worth noting that the information-seeking dialogue has not been paid much attention in the argumentation theory. In the paper, we classify information-seeking dialogue and demonstrate how a detailed classification can facilitate research on argumentation.
