Abstract

Unlike in the recent past, today it is controversial to hold a denialist position on the scientific consensus that we humans are warming the Earth. How did this change come about and what role has argumentation played? In exploring these points, this presentation will discuss with those who argue that a change of consciousness in relation to climate change has occurred and must occur through individual persuasion (John Dryzek, 2013; Lee McIntyre, 2021). We also review Jean Goodwin’s (2014; 2015; 2019) argumentative analyses of climate controversies where scientists faced skeptics.
