Clinical research on the management of acute pancreatitis was the focus of my thesis. Various treatment strategies were evaluated 'from treatment to prevention'. Many opportunities to improve clinical practice and promising areas for future research were identified. The mission of the Dutch Pancreatitis Study Group to improve clinical outcomes for all patients with acute pancreatitis remains fundamental and will be continued.
