Review of Uhlmann, F. (ed.) (2023) Codification of administrative law: a comparative study on the sources of administrative law

Abstract

‘Comparative research on administrative law is still relatively rare—wrongly I believe,’ states Uhlmann in the introduction of this book. And he is absolutely right; comparative legal research can alter your perspective on your own legal system. It shows that decisions made on a national level may be less obvious than initially thought and that alternatives are conceivable. This in itself makes the book highly relevant. To achieve a successful comparison of various legal systems, it is important to adequately define the research topic.

Only then is it possible to explain the similarities and differences within an accessible number of pages. This book has managed to do that successfully. Rather than covering administrative law in general, the book is limited to the codification of administrative law in each country within approximately 30 pages.
