ERNST HAECKEL AND THE VISUALIZATION OF SCIENCE – Part 4 of 4: ‘Design again’ [011]
Abstract
This is the final part of a series of 4 Web-articles by Marjan Groot. It discusses how design around 1900 interacts with illustrations by Ernst Haeckel and with metaphors of biology in general.
The text of the 4 parts altogether is based on two talks that I gave in 2009 for the ‘Festival Key of Life’ and updated in 2014. For this festival in 2009 the German scientist Ernst Haeckel, active at the end of the nineteenth century, was the starting point to inspire artists and designers for a project of their own. Two of these projects feature in my Blog 05.
