In modem western constitutional monarchies, the King and Queen are the remaining stabilizing factors while the politica! landscape is ruptured by a divided population of voters. The media have also changed remarkably since the early days of the world's monarchies. However, Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands has adapted to the changing circumstances.
