The aim of this thesis was to explore several aspects of both clinical decision making and quality assessment in colorectal cancer surgery. Part one focusses on benefits and risks of treatment options, preoperative information provision and Shared Decision Making (SDM); part two investigates changes and hospital differences in surgical treatment strategies regarding anastomosis and stoma construction, and their relation with postoperative outcomes; part three describes features of clinical auditing as a tool for quality measurement and improvement of colorectal cancer surgery
