Van meenten tot marken : een onderzoek naar de oorsprong en ontwikkeling van de Gooise marken en de gebruiksrechten op de gemene gronden van de Gooise markegenoten (1280-1568)
Abstract
This study is about the origin, genesis and vanishing of the Gooi marken, two commons in the province of Noord-Holland. Its focus is upon the origin of the use-rights on the common lands of the Gooi commoners, known as erfgooiers. Furthermore it contains an analysis of the way the Gooi marken sustained themselves in comparison with similar organizations in other areas. Also the history of the erfgooiers is written against the background of some decisive developments. The Gooi marken were probably formed at the beginning of the fourteenth century: one which contains the pastures, heath lands and peat lands, another which focus lay on the forests. The main causes for this were the change of power in the county Nardinclant and the wish and need of the Gooi peasants to make their use-rights on the common grounds and forests permanent. . The most important use-right, grazing rights, was activated since 144 2 on the basis of veldslag. All use-rights depended upon veldslag (such as tend a flock of sheep on the heath lands or to collect peat). Only if one possessed arable land en paid the so-called koptienden (tithes), trees could be cut down in the forests: to be gegoed.
