Abstract

The first half of this thesis describes the synthesis of several conformationally restricted alkylated and bicyclic sugar amino acids (SAAs). The second half of the thesis describes the application of the SAAs and their intermediates presented in the first half, as components of tools applied for the probing of biological systems.
